Why South Africa? In sub-Saharan Africa, more than 34 million children are growing up as orphans. Of those, more than 11 million are kids who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. For every 10 children in the world who have lost their parents to AIDS, 8 of them live in sub-Saharan Africa. South Africa continues to have the largest HIV epidemic in the world, with over 5.6 million people living with HIV. These numbers are staggering.
